Iguana House is located
on Calabash Beach beneath Quiet Hill. This area is two miles east of the
little town of Oak Ridge, on the south coast of Roatan. Oak Ridge is an
English speaking shrimping and fishing village with quaint houses built
around a large harbor and on several keys. Iguana House itself is situated
about sixty feet from the ocean and faces into a gentle trade wind. Snorkeling
and shore diving are excellent on the reef that is just off shore.
The home consists
of a large living, dining, and kitchen area, one bathroom and two air-conditioned
bedrooms. The house has Spanish tile floors throughout and airy, cathedral
ceilings. There is a forty-foot long porch along the front of the house
facing the ocean; plus there is an outside dining porch. The house primarily
is furnished in wicker. One bedroom, on the ocean, has two full beds and
one bedroom, to the rear of the house, has a queen size bed.
There is a two-story
boathouse and sun deck plus dock for the speedboat. The dock is about
50 feet long and you can jump right off from it and snorkel to the reef
(about one minute away). There is a lower dock elbow for the kayaks.
Although the home
is in an undeveloped area of Roatan, there is 24-hour electricity, hot
water, telephone and cable television. There is a small speedboat at the
house available with guide for an hourly charge. There is no charge for
the kayaks.
